Tips on Becoming a Paid Mystery Shopper

Chances are you’ve heard of those people that get paid to go shopping. Mystery shopping has been a popular option for earning extra money for decades. However, the internet has made it hard to sort your way through the scams. The good news is there are tips on becoming a paid mystery shopper that are completely legit.

  1. Avoid Scams

First things first. You want to avoid scams at all possible. A mystery shopper will never have to pay to get assignments. If you get an email that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There are legitimate companies out there that have assignments you can get paid for without having to pay anything. Be careful at all times. If it sounds strange, avoid it.

  1. Get All Your Ducks in a Row

You want to create a document that has everything a mystery shopper would need to apply for a company. You want to have a great paragraph about yourself that tells companies how much you love shopping. Also, you want to include your zip code and how far you’re willing to travel for assignments. Don’t forget to include when you’re available during the week. You’ll need to apply to lots of companies in order to make any real money. This document will make it much easier to apply.

  1.  Have the Equipment You Need

You need a computer with an internet connection, a tablet, and a smartphone. If you’re doing several assignments in one day, you want to be able to keep track on your tablet. A tablet is much easier to type on. With your smartphone, you can take pictures and use a voice recorder app to capture any quick notes. Once you get home, you can complete your reports and submit them.

  1. Fill Out Applications Carefully

You want to stand out from other applicants. Mystery shopper companies are looking for applications that have proper spelling, attention to detail, and a completely filled out form. This is where the document you’ll create will come in handy.

  1. Keep Track

Last, but not least, keep track of all the companies you’ve applied to along with the passwords and login names. Again, you’ll be applying to a lot of companies. People who are successful mystery shoppers, work with dozens of companies to get a number of assignments. You will not remember all the passwords unless you have a way to keep track.

It can be fun to be a mystery shopper, but you have to look out for scams and put in a lot of work to get hired for assignments. The good news is this can be a great way to earn extra pocket money if you love to shop.
