Life can be chaotic, which is why you may be longing to simplify.  Managing your life can become a bit crazy when planning for retirement, paying bills, reaching your goals, and taking care of your family. Wouldn’t it be nice to simplify a bit?

Simple living can make you happier, feel more in control of your life, and reduce stress.  It means getting rid of all the extra chaos so that you can have more time for what you love.

Think about what you love in life and work towards getting rid of the things you dislike; those that are not important to you.

Here are my tips on how to simplify your life for a happier 2017.

  1. Think about what matters to you.

By making a list of your priorities, you’ll be able to eliminate all that is holding you back by focusing on what you want most.  You’ll be able to differentiate between what’s important and what’s not.

  1. Slow down.

Stop running through life so quickly that you’re not stopping to enjoy it.  By slowing down, you’ll do things right the first time, you’ll enjoy your life experiences more, and you’ll have the ability to simplify.

  1. Automate your payments.

Have your paychecks direct deposited and set up your monthly bills on auto pay so you don’t have to think about them.  You can even set up auto pay for your monthly credit card payments.

Still take the time to review your bills and bank statements to ensure that everything is correct, but setting things up to take care of themselves will allow you the freedom to not worry about it.

  1. Organize your life.

Being unorganized wastes a significant amount of time and leads to late fees, stress, running late, losing things, and more.

Would it surprise you to know that the average person spends 12 days a year looking for items they’ve lost?  In a recent survey, 55% of consumers said they could save anywhere from 16 to 60 minutes a day if they were more organized.  An astounding 23% of people pay bills late and get charged late fees because they can’t find their bills.  Taking some time to get organized and create a system for filing and keeping track of things will save you a lot of time and stress in the future.

  1. Use reminders on your calendar.

If there is something coming up that you need to remember, create a reminder. This makes managing your life so much easier.  No need to worry about missed appointments, past due bills, or projects that need to be completed.   .

You can create reminders for things like:

  • Tasks and to-do lists.
  • Renewing license plate tags for your cars.
  • Paying semiannual bills, such as car insurance or property tax.
  1. Become debt free.

Whether you have student loans, credit card debt, or car loans, paying it off will help you manage your finances easier and stress less.  Debt can cause a significant amount of stress, and by getting rid of it you’ll be able to live a more simplified life.

  1. Opt for paying bills annually or semiannually.

Instead of paying for bills like home insurance and auto insurance every month, look into paying them every six months or once a year. You may even qualify for a discount if you do this.

Living a more simplified life reduces your overall stress and allows you the freedom to spend more time doing the things you love.
