Easily Put $200 Back In Your Budget Every Month

Think you can’t save? Think again! It may seem like there’s not a lot of wiggle room in your budget, but that’s exactly why you need to put money back into it every month. Fortunately, there are plenty of pain-free ways to find cash, even from a fixed income.  Start slowly, but do start; you’ll find it adding up much faster than you expect.

Save On Recurring Expenses

One of the first places to look for money in your budget is on the big recurring monthly expenses that we all have.

Scrutinize your cell phone bill.  JD Powers reports that the average annual cell phone bill is $1,152, or about $96 a month.  You can lower that cost significantly by getting a great smartphone through a pre-paid wireless provider. Or compare plans through other providers.  Look at each and every charge on your bill.  Is there something that you’re not familiar with?  Question it with your provider.  Are your data charges too high?  Make sure you are connected to your home’s internet service when you are there.

Review your home phone bill.  You may find that you can cancel this altogether if you are only using your cell phone.  If you still need a home phone option, take a look at some of the internet phone services.  And if you need a land-line for a home security system, consider canceling some of the options on your service like voicemail, call waiting and caller id to save on things you don’t need or use.

Is there room to save on your cable bill?  Take a look at switching cable providers from one to the other to get in on a promotional offer.  Take a look at your bill and see if you are being charged for channels you don’t watch.  If so, cancel them.  It’s much less expensive to rent a movie every weekend than pay for several movie channels that you never watch.  Or cut the cord altogether and save hundreds by using online streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime.

Save On Money Leaks

There are times when money just seems to flow out of our hands and wallets because we spend it somewhere without thinking about it.

Do you buy a cup of coffee on your way to work every day? Cut back and buy a great micro-roasted coffee to make at home instead.  Look for coffee recipes to find your favorite way to brew.

Do you collect comic books or spend money on craft items you never use?  Whatever your hobby, you can often spend lots of money every month on buying the latest and best thing.  No need to cut it out completely, but cutting back on how much spend can help you save in unexpected ways.

Are you losing money every month at the bank?  Avoiding overdraft fees and ATM fees shouldn’t be too hard, but it’s a problem for a lot of people. Make sure you’re reconciling your accounts regularly, and make sure that you always know how much money you have by checking your balance daily.
